CSTI announces the completion of marking and signposting activities for the DOT project - Business Cooperation and Skills Improvement for the Development of Outdoor Tourism. Marking and signposting for the project was conducted on access trails to the Coastal Mountain Transversal Trail in the municipalities of Bar, Budva, Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi from August to November 2011.
This was a multi-step process requiring many months of preparation, field work, and evaluation. CSTI first met with representatives from the five aforementioned municipalities, representatives from mountaineering clubs and NGO's in the designated region, and from the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro to collect input before proceeding with trail activities. Feedback was collected in order to assess regional priorities for signposting, trail maintenance, and to establish clear expectations. The decision was made to mark a total of 98 kilometers of hiking and biking trails across the five coastal districts.
These plans were finalized through a signed memorandum between municipalities and CSTI. In signing this document both parties agreed to the terms of the upcoming trail activities, and municipalities accepted the responsibility of trail maintenance within their area of authority after the close of DOT project.
Next, CSTI selected a team to realize these activities. A group of certified individuals from the regional mountaineering clubs Subra (Herceg Novi) and Vjeverica (Kotor) as well as from the NGO Rast (Budva) was chosen to carry out marking and signposting on the designated trails. During the subsequent field work GPS data was collected in addition to the marking and signposting of trails, and photos were taken of the cross points where signalization was installed.
Complete documentation (GPS track data with photos of the cross points) was submitted to the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro in order to integrate these trails into the Registry of Mountaineering Trails of Montenegro.
