Training modules for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are aimed at strengthening capacities and contributing to achieving concrete results for the project “Business Cooperation and Skills Improvement for the Development of Outdoor Tourism.“ Two GIS training modules have recently been held in Podgorica, Montenegro, focusing on aspects such as the preparation of a tourist map for the cross-border project area of this project.
The first module was for Croatian participants, held from 19th to 23rd of September, while the training module for Montenegrin participants was held from 26th to 30th of September. During these trainings, all 19 participants were successfully introduced to GIS technology through lectures about Quantum GIS software and practical work.
The second, advanced module of training was attended together by Croatian and Montenegrin groups, and was held in Podgorica from 24th to 28th October. During this joint workshop, 18 participants gained experience on concrete tasks such as the conversion of available data into adequate forms, vectorisation process etc. The workshop resulted in significant contributions to the making of a GIS Database and preparation of a thematic map for the DOT project. Final outcomes include exchange of knowledge and experience, and a GIS Database created jointly by Croatian and Montenegrin participants. These achieved results have contributed to further absorption of GIS knowledge and to the overall development of sustainable tourism in the cross border area.
Following this successful workshop, project partners will continue to implement further activities in line with detailed plans, which will culminate in the creation of a tourist map of the cross-border project area.
