Contract Signed for 18-month Cultural Exchange Project

The Delegation of the European Commission and Centre for Sustainable Tourism Initiatives have signed the contract for implementation of a project under which small entrepreneurs and motivated agricultural producers from 4 "nahija" districts of the Old Royal Montenegro (Crmnička, Katunska, Riječka and Lješanska) will benefit from an enhanced tourist draw, economic diversification and revitalisation.

The project is in line with the revised "Montenegro Tourism Development Strategy to 2020" and the new tourism Master Plan, with 90% of the total contribution awarded by the European Commission, 8% by GTZ and 2% by the Ministry of Tourism and National Tourism Organization in Montenegro.

CSTI will create a concept for new tourism products as a result of thematic product development by targeting producers of local traditional products, owners of old authentic buildings, stone-built houses, traditional restaurants, etc. During the project implementation which is planned to last 18 months, the following results will be achieved:

  • Identified traditional cultural tourism products
  • Stimulated and upgraded tourism services
  • Created concept for a new tourism product - "a tourism thematic route"
  • Improved knowledge and raised awareness on importance of cultural heritage and cultural-tourism business opportunities.

The main partner in the project is Naturpark Schwarzwald in Germany and during the project implementation the participants of this project will have the opportunity to exchange experiences with project leaders and stakeholders from this region.
