CSTI has been attended II Croatian Congress on Rural Tourism

CSTI has been attended II Croatian Congress on Rural Tourism with International Participation from 21-25 April, 2010. More information on the congress organisation can be found on www.kongres-seoskog-turizma.org.

The main focus of the congress was creation of the concept for long-term development of rural tourism as a significant promoter of the regional sustainable development. Specific objective is preservation of the local identity, traditions and customs, strengthening authentic, traditional and ecological production and core development of rural areas. Rural tourism development can be considered as prospective part of the world tourism and especially in the Western Balkan Region which is aware of the following fact:

• Rural Tourism is just initiated in the region and is considered as a huge unused potential.
• There are no enough initiatives in the field comparing to its importance for creation of new values in rural areas
• The need for institutional rural development and village tourism is increasing in rural areas
• Active and organized approach in ever lasting process of tourism service development in rural areas is necessity
• Positioning the Western Balkan as rural tourism destination is in increased demand
• There are more need for responsible actions of regional/local authorities and  higher education centres or a research institutes in uniform development of rural areas
