Honey Route through Durmitor and Herzegovina - Dec 2014 - Oct 2016

In co-operation with the Entrepreneurship and Business Association (LiNK) and Youth  Association for Promotion of Traditional Products "The Taste of Herzegovina" from Mostar, the Beekeeping Association of Montenegro (SPOCG) and the Centre for the Sustainable Tourism Initiatives (CSTI) are implementing the project  "Honey Routes Through Durmitor and Herzegovina" for 22 months.  The project is financed by the European Union through IPA cross-border cooperation programme with 85% of the total value which equal €205,104.00 for Montenegro.

The ultimate goal of the project is the sustainable socio-economic development of the cross-border area between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, through the promotion of a new tourist model based on the quality honey products presentation.

The Honey Route Through Durmitor and Herzegovina connects six municipalities from Montenegro with the nine municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). The target groups are honey producers who have educational and selling roles, restaurants and hotels that include honey-based products in their offer, dedicated local institutions, tourism development organisation and academic communities that will further improve the Route and get use of it for future typical products development.

The project is being implemented through a series of activities with the following goal:

- To develop the concept and presentation of the Honey Route management model,

- To build promotional and sales honey points/stations (3 stations in Montenegro and 4 in B&H),

- To develop a capacity building program for target group and improve product quality,

- To organize study visits between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro,

- To organize promotional fairs,

- To prepare and distribute promotional material (logo, brochures, fliers, publications, etc.),

- To develop and Install visible infrastructure in the form of information boards,

- To design, develop, and update websites under the ethno-gastronomic portal (www.ethnogastro-balkan.net), and

- To organise the official presentation of the project.

 

After 22 months of the project implementation, the local ethno gastronomic and cultural heritage of the region with the focus on honey products will be systematically catalogued. New tourist offer (the Honey Route) of the broader area of Durmitor and Herzegovina will be created according to set goals. It will be developed and successfully promoted and products and services will be significantly enhanced and standardized.
